What an Inspector Expects
Continuous record for temperature-critical shipments, not a spot reading at handoff. Documented excursion procedure with a notification threshold. Written reports for excursions that occurred. A stated retention period. Evidence that the decision on affected material was made by you, not the carrier.
The Single Best Qualification Question
"Show me a real excursion report you've issued." A carrier with a genuine program has one and will redact and share it. A carrier without one will describe their process instead.
What a Complete Excursion Report Contains
| Element | Why |
|---|---|
| Shipment and manifest reference | Traceability |
| Container and device identification | Which packaging, which logger |
| Full temperature record with excursion marked | The evidence |
| Duration and magnitude | Determines acceptability |
| Ambient conditions | Root cause |
| Courier actions taken | Containment |
| Root cause and corrective action | What changed |
Who Decides Whether Material Is Still Usable?
You do. A courier that discards, substitutes or continues with a compromised shipment on its own judgment has made a clinical decision it isn't qualified to make.
